Located in the south, Kaohsiung is one of the most important cities in Taiwan. Kaohsiung Metro plays an essential role in avoiding traffic jams caused by a large population. Kaohsiung MRT opened in 2008 and combined two metro lines and one circular light rail. In addition, the MRT system includes other important transit systems such as high-speed rail, rail transport, harbor, and airport. You can easily transfer from one form of transportation to another.

Kaohsiung MRT most famous Stations
Formosa Boulevard (美麗島站)
- Station: R10/O5 Formosa Boulevard
- Metro Line: Red/Orange Line
Before coming to Kaohsiung, you may have seen the picture above, as it is one of the landmarks of the city. Formosa Boulevard Station is located at the intersection of Zhongzheng Road and Zhongshan Road in Kaohsiung City. At the same time, it is also an interchange station for the Orange metro line and Red line.
It is known as the “Dome of Light,” designed by Italian artist Narcissus Quagliata. The “Dome of Light” is made from individual pieces of colorful glass. This amazing public art piece has four theme areas, including water, earth, light, and fire. They have different meanings; for example, water means the womb of life, and the earth means the act of growing and prospering. If you have a chance to go to Kaohsiung City, don’t forget to visit this special MRT station.
Love Pier (真愛碼頭站)
- Station: C11 Love Pier
- LRT Line: Circular LRT Line
Love Pier station is beside the Love River Bridge. This bridge is one of the famous bridges in Kaohsiung City. At night, the colorful streamer lights will light up and make the whole bridge more romantic and colorful. You can walk or ride a bike on this bridge and enjoy the night view of the Love River. I have to say this is my favorite place in Kaohsiung.
Sanduo Shopping District (三多商圈站)
- Station: R8 Sanduo Shopping District
- Metro Line: Red Line
Sanduo Shopping District station is on the red line. The design of the station entrance is not like others, as you can see from the picture above. In addition to the building’s exterior design, the station is located in the Sanduo Shopping District. There are three big shopping malls, including the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi Department Store, Pacific SOGO, and Mega 21 Far Eastern Shopping Complex. It is considered the best shopping district in Kaohsiung City.
Central Park (中央公園站)
- Station: R9 Central Park
- Metro Line: Red Line
The top of Central Park station’s entrance is designed with a 3D arc. Once you leave the station, you will see a really green environment. Kaohsiung Central Park is located in the city center and is a good place to relax and enjoy a nice atmosphere for parent-child groups, couples, and elders.
